2018 - Expression of Interest - Specialist curriculum reviewers and writers wanted for GDHR



The Sexual Health and Blood-borne Virus Program (SHBBVP) at the WA Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing and monitoring the public health response to sexually transmissible infections and blood-borne viruses among priority populations in Western Australia. SHBBVP also manages the Growing and Developing Healthy Relationships (GDHR) website ( for school educators.

SHBBVP is seeking to establish a panel of specialist Curriculum Writers/Reviewers with demonstrated experience in Sexuality and Relationships Education (SRE) to review curriculum content and develop assessment tasks for the GDHR website.

Appointment to this pool of writers is on a casual basis. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements over the next 12 months.

Successful applicants will agree to the following approved conditions:

  • The  intellectual property arising out of the work undertaken belongs to the DOH;
  • The DOH is entitled to edit any materials;
  • The DOH is under no obligation to use any material or feedback provided; and
  • All information in relation to the work undertaken for the DOH must be treated confidentially.



Reviewing and writing to take place during Term 2,3 or 4 of 2018.


Closing date for submissions to this EOI will be 2 December 2018 at 5.00PM.

Project outline

Session plan review and assessment task writing

1. Trialling sessions
Trial all session plans from one year group on GDHR in Term 2,3 or 4 of 2018.
2. Adaptations
Provide detailed written feedback of any adaptations made to session plans prior to and during delivery, and reasons for these changes. This will be in the format of tracked changes to the session plan Word document obtained from the GDHR website. Capped at 1 hour per session.
3. Written feedback
Provide detailed written feedback on each session plan trialled on feedback template provided. Capped at 1 hour per session.
4. Background notes
Provide written feedback on background notes, resources, guides, illustrations referenced in the session plan on feedback template provided. Capped at 1 hour per session.
5. Assessment task
Write one assessment task and marking key for the year group trialled. Capped at 2 hours.
6. Two hour workshop
Attend a two hour workshop after school (possibly online) to provide final feedback on the draft assessments.



$67.86 per hour paid to teachers

$150 vouchers given to participating schools for each year group trialled

How to Register

Selection Criteria

  1. Demonstrated experience in writing, reviewing and implementing high quality, best practice curriculum content aligned to the Western Australian Curriculum and Achievement standards for school-based SRE education.
  2. Demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of the Health and Physical Education curriculum and pedagogy of SRE.
  3. Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: assessment task writing; Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) communities; Special Educational Needs (SEN); Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities; gender diversity (LGBTI+); rural/remote teaching communities; Catholic Education/Independent Schools/Public Schools.


  • Hold current registration with Teaching Registration Board of Western Australia (TRBWA).
  • Current active teaching position in Western Australia (relief teachers eligible).
